Say hello to a bonafide snowboard legend Burton team rider for a decade, revered judge and founder of the Psykopit crew and the Instagram account Classic Snowboarding it’s the French Fancy, @L’Arrogs a.k.a. Julien Haricot.
Wonderfully French he is a purveyor of style and function without equal. It’s the reason why he is first on the list to judge at every comp from the US Open to the Olympics.
So between long days sitting still in a large fridge to hot laps with the world’s best who better to decide whether our gear is as good looking and tech as we believe?
JOURNAL
DAY 1: Today was the first that I was up at Cardrona Alpine Resort with my crew for the Winter Games NZ. I’ve swapped out my cotton hoody for a Mons merino layering system and I’m feeling pretty good. I’m so stoked how stylie the clothes look, not your usual technical performance wear!
After shredding around the mountain with my crew, getting some park laps in and getting low on the slopes with some classic euro carves, i’ve got to say i’m surprised how good I felt. With only a tee, long sleeve base layer and a wool padded jacket I was never cold even in the wind, and when I got hot riding I never felt super sweaty. Thanks merino!
I’ll be wearing Mons for 3 weeks over the Winter Games so excited to see how it holds up through different conditions.
DAY 2: I’ve had a pretty intense end of the week and week-end judging the finals of the Junior Snowboard World Championship Slopestyle contest part in Cardrona. There was an insane level from the kids – without a doubt the future of snowboarding. We had the chance to have some way better weather condition than the beginning of the week with a beautiful bluebird – but the wind was still there, cold and dry. So I absolutely rocked the Mons Royale layers during the whole contest and was so comfortable.
DAY 3: We finally had our 1st day OFF after 10 hectic days, so we did enjoy to visit the Blue Pools area which was magnificent! I wore my Mons Royale KEEPER INSULATED SHIRT the whole day which I’m totally in love with. So many people around gave me compliments about the jacket, which is pretty unusual!
Monday is an extra day off and I ‘m gonna keep visiting around and go to Queenstown for the day, before tomorrow. We’ll be back in business to judge the Snowboard Half-Pipe finals of the Winter Games NZ with my warm Mons Royale layers. Hell yeah, we keep going on the JUDGE MONS, and as always, enjoying snowboarding as much as we can!!
DAY 4: Today’s the day! It’s been such an epic time at Winter Games NZ this year, and I feel super lucky to have been a part of it! The level of riding just seems to be going up and up, and the kids are throwing bigger and bigger tricks. On the final day of the games, we finished with a huge show – Snowboard Big Air Finals!
After getting set up in the booth, we had a little wait time so went for a few laps through the park to enjoy the sun. As always, I was layering my Keeper Insulated Jacket with the Covert Hoody, Yotei Powder Hood and Temple Tech T, and I gotta say, even when I got hot and felt sweaty from riding, I never felt like my Mons stopped me from breathing. I definitely didn’t get as hot as when I’ve worn cotton.
Back in the Judge cabin, it was so cool to watch the guys and girls put down some huge tricks. There was some of the best Snowboarder’s in the world at the event, so the level of riding was insane!!
After having our minds melted we headed to the Winter Games Closing Ceremony, and boy did we have a good time!!! Partying aside, I have honestly been so stoked to be a part of #JUDGEMONS and I’ve been so surprised at how well all the Mons gear works. I’ve become a total merino convert and I will never ride in anything but again!
PRODUCT REVIEW
1. How did your Mons feel against your skin? Were you comfortable all day in it?My Mons Royale gear felt so soft against my skin, the baselayers and the mid/outer layers are so comfortable, light, and breathable. The layers have all the qualities that you need and want to snowboard in everyday, whatever is the weather, cold or warm!2. The weather on the mountain can be variable, do you think Mons merino is suitable for all conditions? During the 3 weeks of the Winter Games NZ in Cardrona the weather on the mountain was really variable with a lot of wind almost everyday day, and with some warm sunny spring days at the end of the event for a perfect finish. I was wearing the same Mons Royale gear for all the different conditions and it was just perfect, never too cold and never too warm. When I was a little warm during the few last days of the competitions, I just have to leave off my Mons Royale neckwarmer, then everything was great!!! Also it was my first merino clothing experience, so as I already said, and will say it again again, I will never snowboard again without wearing some merino clothing. Thanks Mons Royale to make me discover the merino!!
3. What was your favourite feature of your Keeper Insulated Shirt and why?My favorite Mons Royal piece was definitely The Keeper Insulated Shirt which is simply an awesome good, looking jacket! I got so many compliments from different people about this magnificent jacket during the Winter Games when I was riding and judging. Don’t forget my quote… “However you are riding, the most important is how you look!” – Lucky I was in my Mons!
