#JUDGEMONS

Amongst the ego’s and hype we need a mountain mortal, someone with no vested interest in Winter Games or the industry other than their unbridled passion for snow, in short a true fan.   That is why we’ve enlisted @NefariousNel a.k.a. Nel Collins. She loves the snow so much that she lives in an eternal winter yoyo’ing between Canada’s powder paradise of Big White and the Southern Hemisphere park mecca of Cardona.   She loves park and big mountain skiing, has a great crew and will be taking in as much of the off mountain activity as on.

JOURNAL

DAY 1: On Saturday we went sledding out the back of Snow Farm. I wore my striped balaclava, striped base layer top/ bottoms and socks – such coordination! It was sunny with a strong wind so in the lower sheltered areas it was hot but chilly elsewhere, especially when being towed! About 2 laps in I rolled the sled (typical) in some real thick wet snow so worked up a sweat correcting it and hiking back out again! The base layer surprised me as I didn’t stay too hot for too long but then when I cooled down back in the wind, it was super comfortable and I didn’t get a chill. I was also real hungover so the new steeze made me feel class on the outside compared to the inside. (BONUS POINTS) DAY 2: Yesterday I wore the black base layer top at work; it kept me super snug in the frozen cloud.. And a kid spilt a hot chocolate all over me so the black was a lifesaver! I’ve been wearing the cut off sleeve jacket up to work every day – it’s so easy to wear over everything and has nice pockets haha. I’ve had a bunch of compliments on it! So thanks so far the stuff is amazing! DAY 3: It was another rad day at Cardrona Parks today! The groms were out in force for the Junior Freeski World Championships and holy smokes were they throwing down! The level of talent on the course was unreal, and it was so cool to watch the girls turn up the heat as well as the guys. I managed to slip out to watch some of the comp on my lunch break, not forgetting a couple of rails and kicker laps thrown in there for good measure! It was pretty warm up there today with minimal wind on the chairs, and i felt pretty protected from both the sun and the breeze in my Decade Hoody. I really like riding in a hoody in the spring because it gives you so much more movement in the park and just generally way more comfortable – so the Decade is an easy win to me! DAY 4: Today was the perfect day! Bluebird, spring slush and the Winter Games NZ Freeski Big Air Finals! After a few lunchtime laps with my girl Dora, a crew of us settled on Tom’s rock to watch the action! It was absolutely scorching at Cardrona today, and I was just rocking my Yotei Powder Hood and Decade Hood for riding, but quickly delayered to settle in to spectate in the sun. Wearing Mons through the Winter Games NZ has been awesome, my favourite feature is the ponytail hold on the baselayer which makes it soo much easier to manage the mane instead of it getting stuck in my balaclava. I’ve gotta say, whatever the weather.. whether it’s been hot or cold and i’ve been still or riding, i’ve never felt so optimum. The way merino helps control and maintain your temperature is amazing – i’m for sure a merino princess and I won’t wear anything else on the mountain again!
